Marionette lines — the lines running downward from the corners of the mouth — are one of the most differently treated concerns across aesthetic clinics. Our approach is deliberately quieter than the volume-restoration version, and the right thing to do before booking is understand why.
The Approach
Skin quality, not volume restoration
In many clinics, marionette lines are treated as a sign that volume has been lost in the lower face — addressed by placing filler to push the tissue back outward. That approach can produce visible change. It can also produce the “volumised” look that some clients actively want and others actively don't.
Our approach treats marionette lines as primarily a skin-quality concern: drier, thinner, less hydrated skin that holds the line shape more rigidly than well-hydrated skin would. Skin boosters add hyaluronic acid at depth across the area, improving the skin's ability to retain moisture and support its own structure. The result is softer, less “set” lines — without changing the volume of the lower face.
That makes the result subtler than the volume version. For many clients, that's the appeal. For some, it isn't enough — and we'll be honest about that before booking.

In other clinics, marionette lines are commonly treated as a volume-loss problem — filler placed to push the area outward. Our approach treats them primarily as a skin-quality and hydration problem. The result is subtler, more in keeping with the rest of the face, and easier to maintain.

Two sessions, four weeks apart — the usual rhythm
Skin boosters work in a defined rhythm regardless of which area we're treating. The first session activates the response; the second reinforces it; the result peaks around 8 weeks. Same protocol as our wider skin-booster course.

If your concern is significant structural volume loss in the lower face, skin boosters alone are unlikely to satisfy you. We'll be honest at consultation about whether our approach fits your goal, and may suggest a different specialist if a more substantial change is what you actually want.

The Course
What a typical course looks like
Same rhythm as our wider skin-booster work: 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart, with maintenance every 6 to 9 months. Hyaluronic acid placed at depth across the marionette area to improve skin hydration and quality.
Most clients leave with small bumps at injection sites that settle within a few hours. Tenderness for the rest of the day is common; bruising at sites is possible and usually fades within a week. We book a brief two-week review so we can look at the result of the first session before the second.

Honestly, no — and we wouldn't want to overpromise that. What skin boosters do is improve hydration and skin quality across the area, which can soften the appearance of the lines and reduce the “tired” look that often comes with them. If your concern is meaningful structural change to the corners of the mouth, that's a different conversation — and one we may end with a referral or a clear “not yet”.
Marionette lines that have been settling into the skin for years tend to soften with skin boosters rather than disappear. We aim for “softer and less tired-looking,” not “invisible.” Many clients are happy with that outcome; if you're hoping for total erasure, the honest answer is that no treatment delivers that reliably.
Filler in the marionette area is a real technique used in many clinics, and it can produce visible volume change. We've chosen not to lead with that approach because the look it produces — a more “volumised” lower face — isn't what most of our clients are asking for, and the trade-offs (filler migration, repeated treatment, the need for dissolving if results are unsatisfying) feel disproportionate to the benefit. Skin boosters are quieter, more reversible, and (in our hands) suit the area better.
The typical course is 2 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. Maintenance is usually scheduled every 6 to 9 months. We'd review at the end of the initial course and discuss whether further sessions add value before committing to maintenance.
Subtle improvements in skin hydration and how the area looks at rest typically begin within the first 1–2 weeks after the first session. The fuller effect builds over the 4-week gap and is at its clearest by around week 8 of the course. The change is gradual and subtle by design.
Most people describe it as briefly uncomfortable rather than painful. The area can feel tender for a few hours afterwards. Bruising at injection sites is possible and usually fades within a week.
We may not be the right clinic for that. The skin-booster approach we lead with is deliberately subtle, and we won't pretend it can deliver a dramatic result.
